I grew up in the country.  Fresh air, fresh food and plenty of exercise was taught as medicine.  Then I grew up.  I started taking the easy way, fast food, driving everywhere, and if it didn’t come in a box, I didn’t have time to make it.  I also joined the Army Reserves so I pushed myself to be the best.

Unfortunately, I was wearing myself out.  And, I was constantly getting sick.  If I didn’t have the common cold, I had other health issues.  Some may say, no big deal.  Go to the doctor and get some medicine….

There lies the problem.  A friend of mine called me The Asterisk Girl.  Why?  You know the asterisk at the bottom of medical commercials, all of the possible side effects…  That was me.  

I had to gamble each time I was sick.  Do I pray that rest and Grandma’s chicken soup would nurse me back to health, or do I risk the possible side effects? 

During this health struggle, I started diving back into alternative medicine.  I had to pay out of pocket because at the time, the military did not offer those services.  So I was sick, in debt and couldn’t pay my medical bills.

Then I got married and started having children.  Two of my four children have food and environmental allergies.  One was born with them, one “grew” into them.  My boys were placed on multiple medicines to help control their symptoms.  I watched my boys go from very active outdoor loving boys into zombies and sleeping their childhood away. 

I couldn’t do it.  I couldn’t do that to my children.  I couldn’t risk getting sick again and not being able to take care of my babies because of the side effects.

I believe God intervened.  He placed a wonderful lady at church in my path.  She was doing her own natural journey and completing lots of her own research. She eventually shared what she was doing and the resources she was finding answers in.

I dove right in and started my own journey.  I was able to get my boys off of all of their meds, (except, we keep their emergency medicine).  I learned to support my body and theirs  through natural means and alternative medicine.

It is amazing the full circle journey we sometimes take.  Learning that Grandma’s kitchen wisdom can help heal not only our bodies, but our minds as well.
